Paragraph 1

You pay the application fee of £937 when you apply. You apply from inside the UK, before your Student visa expires.

Paragraph 2

You also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, at £1,035 for each year of the visa.

The surcharge depends on the visa’s length

The visa lasts 2 years if you apply on or before , and 3 years if you have a PhD or other doctoral qualification.

The shorter visa from 2027

Paragraph 5

If you apply on or after , a Graduate visa lasts 18 months, unless you have a PhD or other doctoral qualification.

For a visa of 18 months, the surcharge is the yearly cost, today £1,035, plus half of it. GOV.UK gives two different totals, so this handbook gives none.

    6.4 For the changes that introduce a visa requirement on Botswana, those changes will come into effect at 1500 BST on 14 October 2025.
