Rules for Chinese nationals who studied in the UK
The Graduate visa, often called PSW, lasts 2 years if you apply by 31 December 2026, then 18 months.

These rules apply to Chinese nationals studying in the UK or holding a UK degree. They are the same for every nationality; only the HPI list names a country.
The Graduate visa, often called PSW
The Graduate visaGraduate visa Often called PSW, after an earlier post-study work visa. A route for students who have completed an eligible UK course, applied for from inside the UK before the Student visa expires. is often called PSW. You apply from inside the UK, before your Student visa expires.
It lasts 2 years if you apply on or before , or 3 years after a PhD or other doctorate. Your own dates are in after your course ends.

5.26 The change to 18 months will apply to applications submitted on or after 1 January 2027, with PhD graduates continuing to receive three years of leave.
HPI with a listed Chinese university degree
A UK degree does not qualify for the High Potential Individual (HPI) visa. A degree from a listed university in China, for example a bachelor’s degree awarded before your UK study, may qualify if it was awarded in the last 5 years.
UK universities are not eligible. If you’re already in the UK on a student visa you may be able to apply for a Graduate visa.
You do not need a job offer, and you can apply for an HPI visa only once. You cannot be granted an HPI visa if you have already been granted a Graduate visa.

Switching to Skilled Worker

When you switch, you need English at level B2. From a Graduate visa you can be paid the new-entrant rate, with a floor of £33,400. The salary rules are in the Rules section.

How long is the Graduate visa for Chinese graduates of UK universities?

Can I get an HPI visa with a UK degree?
